Sensors for crash testing

New crash tests, such as the pedestrian headform test, have driven the need for lightly damped accelerometers. The ailing economy is affecting all testing sectors but automotive crash testing specifically is also being affected by several other factors. New materials are being introduced and must be validated. Tests are being added to improve the safety of not only the driver and passenger, but pedestrians as well. Regulations are changing to allow different types of sensors to be used and to align the requirements for a global industry. All these developments combine to drive the need for innovation in crash test accelerometers.
