Big comeback of Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region cruise operations

Following a two-year pause due to the global pandemic, cruise operations staged a strong comeback in 2022 across the vast Great Lakes/St. Lawrence region which offers unique historical, geographical and tourist attractions. Generating the most buzz was the newly-built Viking Octantis, an expedition ship conceived specifically to explore the world's most remote destinations. It called at many ports, including Toronto, Milwaukee, Sept-Iles and Thunder Bay, the most distant location at the tip of Lake Superior which received seven turnaround visits.
