Does city money distort rural land values?

The Federal Government's industry consultation on plantation forestry and other agricultural Managed Investment Scheme's (MIS) tax arrangements has generated debate over their impact on farm land values. In its submission to the consultation, the National Farmers Federation (NFF) highlighted the growth of non-forestry MIS "from 31% to almost 50% in the past year, with around 1.26 billion dollar of investment in rural industries coming from MIS in the year ending 30 June 2006 — mostly in forestry, viticulture/wine, olives and almonds".
