Large-scale developments in the state's Pilbara region head a diverse list of projects that may reignite WA's mining investment flame. After a couple of dry years in major project approvals, is Western Australia on the brink of a minerals resurgence? Promising developments in nickel, iron ore, gold and diamonds suggest that the long-awaited turnaround might be just around the corner. Certainly investment conditions appear more fertile than they did 12-18 months ago. But, as always, the promotional hype has to be separated from more sober realities to get a better picture. Indeed, in the lead-up to the WA election last month, an overseas visitor would probably have thought the state's mining sector was already booming big time.
