Placental xenobiotic metabolism and fetal diseases

摘要

The paper reviewed the expression of placental xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes, placental transport and metabolism function, and their effect on fetal diseases. Placenta takes part in transport and metabolism of xenobiotics, and controls xenobiotic distribution between the mother and her fetus. Lower expression of Placental CYP doesn't play an important role in maternal metabolism throughout pregnancy. The mechanism may result from the direct toxicity of nicotine, carbon monoxide, and cyanide from tobacco, which decrease placental perfusion, carrying-oxygen ability of blood, and influence the absorption to nutrition in placenta.
