Regional Bonsai Care Collected Trees Part 1

Around fifteen years ago, one of the authors (Doug) was vacationing with his family in Destin, Florida. He noted a small but striking tree appearing frequently along most of the highway just north of their destination: thick almost black bark, twisted (but thin) trunk, tiny light green leaves. A little research revealed this to be the Pensacola Hawthorn, Crataegus lacrimata, a tree whose habitat was confined to a very tiny area in one or two counties close to Pensacola.
