Dwarf Schefflera Bonsai Range of styling and training strategies

Japanese bonsai perpetuate codified "pine-tree" structural forms. In contrast we train Dwarf Schefflera (Scfoefflera arboricola) utilizing Chinese aristocratic pen-jing philosophy which emphasizes unique characteristics. By the adaptation of the principles of both Japanese bonsai and Chinese penjing, we add complexity to tropicals—True Indoor Bonsai! Our innovations are especially applicable to ficus and Dwarf Schefflera bonsai. Ficus bonsai are the most popular tropical bonsai and are usually trained toward natural banyan shapes with multiple apex and arch branches. Rapid growth combined with the ability to sprout from old wood make possible extreme reduction-building strategies that result in very stout trunks, impressive root buttressing, dramatic trunk taper, extremely compact trees, and aerial roots. Ficus bonsai have a greater range of styling than trees used in Japanese bonsai or Chinese penjing.
