Both the Chinese hackberry and the author have changed a bit since meeting one another at a late fall 1966 workshop with Kathy Shaner. This article focuses on the changes in the tree over the subsequent ten-year period; the author declines to show hischanges, although the fact that mature hackberrys have picturesque bark with corky warts and ridges might apply. More about that later. Along with some minor changes, there have been three major changes over time: growth of new roots, healing on the major cut, and an improved branch and foliage profile.
