An adventure in learning......at the ABS Learning Seminars June 15-18 2006 Kathy Shaner has been known as a master of design and her teaching skills are legendary. To Kathy each species has specific characteristics that tell the artist the direction that the bonsai design should take. While teaching at the St. Louis Convention in 2004, she worked on the boxwood pictured here. As she worked, she explained the specific traits of the species and explained why it dictated her design. In her two-part course for ABS 2006, Designing True To The Species, Kathy will teach how to examine each species for the characteristics that determine its prime design possibilities, while high-lighting the natural growth habits of the species. Kathy hopes that students in her class will bring varied species of trees to the class to illustrate her principles.
