Singapore's First Reservoir in the City Embodies Water and Energy Renewal Directives

For a country with hmited land and no natural water resources, the S226dollar million (US 153.4dollar million) Marina Barrage in Singapore offers a host of water solutions. Spanning 350m across the mouth of the Marina Channel, the Marina Barrage is more than a dam to form a freshwater reservoir to boost water supply. It also acts as a tidal barrier to control and prevent flooding in low-lying areas; and the newly formed Marina reservoir creates a new water-based recreation venue as well as a vibrant waterscape in downtown Singapore. The barrage facility adopts green technology as 405 solar panels - in what constitutes Singapore's largest solar park at 1200 sq m or about a third the size of a football field - generate "green" power for the operation.
