The APLNG project was initiated in April 2009 by Origin and partner ConocoPhilips with the announcement that the two companies had the intention to spend some US$40bn over the next 10 years to develop a Coal bed Methane (CBM)-to-Liquefed Natural Gas (LNG) project at Laird Point on Australia's north-eastern Curtis island. Feedstock for the LNG plant will come from CBM felds in the Surat and Bowen basins located in south west and central Queensland. The basins are estimated to hold 339bcm of gas. The gas will be transported using a 520km transmission pipeline.
