Indian petrochemical companies said they had not been affected by the heavy rain and floods that plagued the southern state of Tamil Nadu in November.The floods resulted in 279 deaths and left at least 200 000 families homeless,according to Indian news reports.The firms-Chemplast San-mar,Tamilnadu Petroprod-ucts,and Thirumalai Chemicals-said they had been spared as they were far from southern coastal districts such as Cud-dalore,Madurai,and Nagap-attinam.
