Apache's'2X'Project Is Aimed at Doubling the Company's Oil Production by 2010 and Meeting 20% of Egyptian Gas Needs

In 2005 Apache Corporation submitted to the Egyptian authorities a"spectacular proposal:join the company,the largest American investor in the country,in an audacious project for doubling the production from Apache's concessions by the end of 2010,"notes the U.S.company in the June 2007 edition of its house journal Arrows.At the time/the output of fields operated by Apache was running at 109,000 b/d of oil and 325 million cu ft/day of gas.Now,Apache is the leading oil and gas producer in the Western Desert and the third largest producer in the country.Its production expansion program,known as project 2X,encompasses all the activities of Apache and its two 50:50% production joint ventures with the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation(EGPC)-Khalda Petroleum Company and Qarun Petroleum Company.
