The cargo traffic has slowed down slightly in the Black Sea amid decreased exports of wheat both from Russia and Ukraine. Also, demand for Black Sea and Turkish steel products is gradually weakening in North Africa and the EU. However, the tonnage list remains extremely short in the Black and Mediterranean Seas due in part to another decline in fleet turnover as downtimes passing the Dardanelles now reach 3 days. This week, only the rates for shipments within the Black and Marmara Seas have inched down by $0.5-1/t, while longhaul transportation costs have stayed at last week’s levels (some owners have even managed to get $0.5-1/t higher rates than last done).
