Ifremer leads the way in aquaculture development

The country of France conjures up images of the beauty of Paris, trendy fashion, and of course some of the greatest restaurants in the world. The French are also world renown for growing some of the world's finest agrarian products. Now, because of the efforts of an aggressive national development program, France is also known for its aquaculture products. Species being grown include a variety of cultured fish and shellfish - much of that seafood is used by in-country consumers. With a coastline that covers both the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, France is geographically poised to become a world leader in cultured seafood production.
