Severe strongyloidiasis

Strongyloidiasis is a common intestinal parasitosis in tropical areas.It provokes digestive disturbances and a blood hypereosinophilia.Without treatment,patients remain infected for many years by an auto-infection.Ivermectin,in one oral dose,is the modern treatment.But,in immunocompromised patients (cancers,steroid,chemotherapy,HIV ou HTLV1 infection),there is a dissemination of the parasites in different organs,including the central nervous system.The troubles differ,according to infected organs,and the hyper-infection often contributes to the fatal outcome.Thus,in such patients,it is very important to detect and treat systematically the Strongyloses before initiating an immuno-suppressive therapy.
