New energy gives Tanzania LNG hope

Both the operators and new President of Tanzania have now publicly said they hope to kickstart the stalled LNG project. There are 42 Tcf of reserves in the offshore blocks held by Shell and Equinor which were discovered around the same time as those in neighbouring Mozambique. The Tanzanian government’s focus on other priorities and lack of interest in negotiating terms means that even the host government agree- ment (HGA) has seen little progress in the intervening decade.
