Inpex begins work on $34 billion Ichthys LNG project

Sydney—Japan’s Inpex May 18 began constructing its $34 billion Ichthys LNG project in the Australian city of Darwin, capital of the Northern Territory. The formal groundbreaking ceremony for the project, which was approved by Japan’s largest upstream company and its French partner Total in January, was attended by a number of dignitaries, including Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Japan’s Senior Vice Minister of Economy Trade and Industry Mitsuyoshi Yanagisawa.
