Washington—US livestock producers on July 30 asked the Environmental Protection Agency to waive the renewable fuel mandate’s ethanol targets for 2012 and part of 2013 as the country’s worst drought in half a century shrivels corn supplies. The 19 trade groups said in a petition to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson that this fall’s expected corn shortage would raise feed prices for their animals and eventually cause grocery prices to soar.
