China’s National Development and Reform Commission has approved the country’s first overall development plan for a coalbed methane (CBM) project in Shanxi province. Independent explorer Asian American Gas said Friday that it received approval for the Panzhuang project in Jincheng city which will pave the way for commercial production. The firm is targeting output to reach over 48 MMcf/d by 2014. Currently total output from 20 multilateral pilot wells is just under 10 MMcf/d.
