About 800,000-tomies of raw hides and skins are converted into finished leathers in India per annum.The value of export of leather and leather products from India is about US$5.8-bn(2015-16).The major leather clusters of the country arc Dindigul,Erode,Ranipet,Melvi-sharam,Ambur,and Vaniyambadi in Tamilnadu;Jajmau,Banthar and Unnao in Uttar Pradesh;Jalandhar leather complex in Punjab;and Kokata leather complex in West Bengal.
