The influence of an alternating electric field on moistening a polyethylene cable insulation is investigated experimentally. Measurements of tgδ have been carried out by the method of dielectric losses at the frequency of 1 kHz. It is established that an alternating electric field significantly accelerates the process of water sorption by a cable insulation (more than 100 times).
