The association's associations: LITA: educating and serving

The three strategic initiatives of the Library and Information Technology Association--to educate, to serve, and to reach out--characterize member interest in leading-edge technologies and the practical applications of those technologies in all types of libraries. These initiatives are addressed through programming, publishing, and services. EXPANDING OPPORTUNITIES Through programming at ALA Annual Conferences and national forums and regional institutes, LITA provides an array of year-round educational opportunities in numerous locations. Each fall, LITA offers a national forum to expand programming andnetworking opportunities to members. This year's forum, "Integrating Innovation," is scheduled for October 11-14 in Milwaukee. Mark your calendars for 2002 when the forum moves to Houston. NEWS YOU CAN USE LITA publications include a quarterly journal, electronic reviews, guides, and monographs. The quarterly journal, Information Technology and Libraries, publishes material on such topics as digital libraries, metadata, authorization and authentication, electronic journals and electronic publishing, telecommunications, distributed systems and networks, computer security and intellectual property rights, technical standards, geographic information systems, desktop applications, online catalogs and bibliographic systems, optical information systems, software engineering, universal access to technology, futuristic forecasting, library consortia, vendor relations, and technology and the arts. This year, the electronic serial Telecommunications Electronic Review changed its name to Technology Electronic Reviews to better capture the breadth of topics covered by the print and electronic resources being reviewed.
