For almost io years, Friendsof Cuban Libraries has advo-cated tirelessly on behalf ofwhat have become known as Cuba's"independent libraries." Led by aNew York Public Library librariannamed Robert Kent, the group hasused blogs, e-mails, letters, andmany public forums to castigatethe American Library Associationfor failing to take a strong enoughstand against censorship and insupport of human rights in Cuba.
