Copper-clad laminate (CCL) manufacturing plants were laid out for producing high volumes of a small number of products, and are less than ideally suited to the current market where customers are demanding smaller lots, more numerousspecifications, short delivery schedules and lower cost. An analysis of manufacturing equipment, production processes, information systems and delivery schedules was conducted and technologies identified that can help to better utilize current equipmentwith the minimum investment costs. The authors believe that the total engineering approach described in the article will drive the evolution of manufacturing plants.
