Roaming the Rhone Wine Range

THE RHONE RIVER VALLEY that we traveled looking for new wine adventures is considered one of the great wine highways of the modern world. It flows from Lake Geneva in Switzerland, where my wife and I were living during the past fall semester, throughsoutheastern France to the Mediterranean. We made two trips to the southern and northern regions visiting vineyards and wineries, tasting distinctly different wines from five appellations. To validate our initial impressions of these wines we continued our tasting experiences of different Rhone wines, particularly those made from Syrah and Viognier grapes, during our stay. Thus we saw the bigger picture of this unique and highly regarded wine-producing area.
