Aloe kamnelii, a new cliff-dwelling species of Aloe section Aloe series Rhodacanthae from the Western Cape (South Africa)

Aloe glauca Mill, has a widespread occurrence in the western and northern Cape (Fynbos & Succulent Karoo, see figures 11-14) following, more or less, an area receiving rainfall mainly during winter (west) and in the eastern part of its range rainfallat any time of the year. The plants are at once distinguished by their distinct glaucous, faintly striate leaves, their growth which is decumbent (occasionally becoming erect) and and reddish teeth along the leaf margin. It is closely related to A. lin-eata from the eastern Cape (thicket and fynbos; for differences see table). Aloe glauca was first named by the botanist Hendrik Oldenland, superintendent of the Company's garden where the plant was also grown in 1695 (as listed by Valentyn in 1726).
