State of the Art and Development of High Field Magnets at the 'Laboratoire National des Champs Magnetiques Intenses,' France

The "Laboratoire National des Champs Magnetiques Intenses" (LNCMI), the French facility for high magnetic fields was created in 2009. It is the result of the merger of the Grenoble laboratory for static magnetic fields with the Toulouse laboratory for pulsed fields. Steady magnetic fields of up to 36 T, pulsed field up to 90 T and single-shot pulsed fields up to 170 T are provided to the international community of users. The LNCMI together with the HMFL for steady magnetic fields in Nijmegen, the Netherlands and the HLD for pulsed magnetic fields in Dresden, Germany, formed the EMFL (European Magnetic Field Laboratory) which aims at structuring the roadmap for high magnetic fields in Europe.
