Impact of Nutrient Management and Changing Climate on Productivity and Carbon Sequestration: a Case Study from Long-term Fertilizer Experiment

It is a matter of great privilege and honour for me to deliver 20th B.V. Mehta Memorial lecture at Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi. I express my thanks to Indian Society of Soil Science and Ranchi Chapter of Society for inviting me to deliver the lecture in the memory of late Dr. Mehta. Dr. B.V. Mehta was one of the soil scientists who started his career with micronutrients and established that micronutrients play important role in sustaining the productivity oi Indian agriculture. I take thisopportunity to pay my humble homage to Dr. Mehta through this lecture. For this, I have chosen the topic "Impact of nutrient management and changing climate on productivity and carbon sequestration in soil". Climate change is now a fact rather future prediction. Plants are the most sensitive to climate and the first to be affected by the change in climate. Since carbon in soil which is most important constituent of soil to describe soil health is more dependent on primary productivity of soil. Thus, ifsoil primary productivity is affected due to change in climate or for that any other factor than carbon in soil or sequestration of carbon is affected which in turn decide soil health.
