VAALCO hoping for better next time after Angola dud

VAALCO Energy must sadly go back to the drawing board after its first well off Angola was water-bearing. The US independent drilled the post-salt Kindle well in Block 5 in the Kwanza Basin using Transocean's Celtic-Sea semisub after nearly a decade of waiting due to partner problems. The well was in 33 Ift (101m) of water with a total depth of 6,000ft (1,829m). The targeted reservoir, the Mucanzo sand formation in the Pinda Group section, was found to be water-bearing. Earlier plans to drill to a total depth of 7,380ft (2,250m) for geologic and geophysical correlation were shelved.
