Maurel to develop in Gabon but gives up In Congo and Mozambique

Maurel & Prom is to concentrate on developing new discoveries in Gabon and producing acreage in Tanzania but is to hand back a block in the latter as well as giving up on Mozambique and Congo Brazzaville. The French private firm has been trying to sell itself for several years and has now been hit hard by the low oil price and is to reduce production capital expenditure by around 10% to US $202m for this year. The vast majority, $177m will be spent in Gabon with the remaining $25m in Tanzania. Two discoveries have recently been made on its Ezanga permit in Gabon - Ezni and Ezmap - which will be the target for development this year. The first of these tested at 1,000 b/d and the latter at 1,100 b/d from one of three reservoirs that contained oil. Maurel is talking to the authorities about tying in Ezni to nearby facilities at the Onal field while more work is needed on Ezmap to test the other two high-pressure zones.
