A disagreement has broken out between Murphy and Cameroon over a deepwater block which contains disputed acreage. The US independent took over operatorship of the Ntem block last year from Sterling Energy and quickly drilled the Bamboo exploration well (see AOG 10 April 2014). The block had been in force majeure since 2005 as part of it is in acreage disputed by Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. Cameroon agreed to lift the force majeure in January in order that Bamboo could be drilled in part of the block outside the disputed area. The well was unsuccessful and Murphy has since decided that the best prospects in the block are in the disputed waters.
