PoeticExpressions: Writing the Persona Poem

摘要

Persona poetry is written from the view of someone other than oneself. Derived from the Latin, persona means a mask or mask of an actor; it is a style well suited to nursing. If you love history, you may write from the perspective of a nurse ancestor like Mary Breckinridge or Dorothea Dix. A persona poem may be written from the perspective of a biblical character, like the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:25-34) or the man born blind (John 9), or you might reflect on a patient and write a poem from that person's perspective. One begins by entering the other person's world. What is this person thinking and experiencing? What can we learn about nursing from this person?
