Over recent years, there has been increasing attention focused on passive coherent detection using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based signal of opportunity. This paper investigates passive coherent detection using Chinese digital television terrestrial broadcasting single frequency network (DTTB SFN), which adopts the time domain synchronous-OFDM (TDS-OFDM) modulation. First, we derive theoretical models of passive coherent detection where no reference antenna is needed to obtain the direct signal. Then a direct signal reconstruction is put forward by the use of pseudo noise (PN) sequence in TDS-OFDM. The possible carrier frequency offset (CFO) problem in OFDM is also taken into account. Subsequently, the optimal direct position determination (DPD) approach for the multiple illuminators in SFN is presented to improve the location accuracy. Finally, simulation results verify that our proposal can achieve excellent location performance without too much computation.
