摘要

In the last decade, research in drug delivery by nanoparticles or nano-vesicles has led to many commercial products. These advances in the novel drug delivery system have provided advantages like reduced toxicity, improved efficacy, targeted delivery, improved bioavailibity, reducing dosing fre-quency, lowered cost of treatment and improved patient compliance. We have developed liposomal amphotericin B in India with properties, constituents different than the other marketed preparations. It is marketed and we have further carried out post marketing studies highlighting the efficacy, safety and cost benefit of our liposomal amphotericin B. The great potential and enhanced qualities of nanotechnology products can be put for use for prevention/treatment of public health issues. Nanotechnology products can be tailor-made to suit the need in remote rural areas with paucity of healthcare infrastructure and trained healthcare staff, especially for emergency situations to ease administration and improve safety.
