We are living in an era where health care professionals, educators and patients alike are beginning to acknowledge the value and benefits of expressive and creative art therapies. Indeed, one pioneer in the field of Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) is Helen Payne. Payne was the first person to receive a doctorate in Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) and went on establish the first nationally recognized postgraduate DMT training programme that is now part of the University of Hertfordshire. In Essentials of Dance Movement Psychotherapy: International Perspectives on Theory, Research and Practice Payne invited contributors from countries outside the United Kingdom, including Latvia, the United States, Israel, South Korea, Greece, Germany and the Netherlands, to encourage perspectives from the international DMT community. I am pleased to provide my input as a reviewer from Turkey.
