A Taxonomic Note on Shirahoshizo japonicus (Zumpt, 1932) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Cryptorhynchinae)

A Japanese cryptorhyncine species Shirahoshizo japonicus (Zumpt, 1932), which was temporarily placed in Crypto-rhynchini, is synonymized with Syrolehts umbrosus (Roelofs, 1875) in Gasterocercini.A Japanese cryptorhyncine weevil, Cryptorrhynchus japonicus Zumpt, 1932, was described based on only one female specimen from "Tokio" (= Tokyo), Japan. After the description, this species was temporarily transferred to the genus Shirahoshizo Morimoto, 1962, in Cryptorhynchini judging from the original description (Morimoto, 1962). However, no thorough examination of the holotype has been conducted to date, thus taxonomic status of the species was unclear.
