CONSERVATION & SUSTAINABLE USE OF INDIGENOUS PLANTS FOR THE BENEFIT OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Kew's Millennium Seed Bank (MSB) partnership is the largest ex situ plant conservation programme in the world which focuses on plants most at risk of extinction and which have important potential future use. Seeds are collected and stored in seed banks in their country of origin and duplicated in the MSB in the UK.Since 2007 Project MGU1 - the Useful Plants Project (UPP) has been working with MSB partners in Botswana, Kenya, Mali, Mexico and South Africa to conserve and sustainably use indigenous plants which are important to local rural communities.
