Conventional pesticides tend to have broad-spectrum chemistry, work in a lot of different conditions and are reliable. But in recent years many of the active ingredients—ones we have used for a long time—have been lost due to regulation.Yet pest, disease and weed control must continue. Many growers are now seeking alternatives and they want whole programmes that provide a healthy crop with reduced residues and that offer a sustainable answer to pest and weed control while also looking after the soil. The focus is very much on integrated pest management (IPM).
