Salvia is in the Labiatae (aka Lamiaceae) family of which there are both annuals and perennials. Salvia is the largest genus of plants in the mint family, with nearly 1000 species of shrubs, herbaceous perennials and annuals. Salvia is also grown as a biennial plant, a two-year life span.
