World textile and apparel trade and production trends:the USA,Argentina,Brazil,Colombia and Mexico

US textile and clothing imports increased in value and volume terms in 2018 and growth is expected to continue in 2019.Coinciding with the growth in imports,US consumer expenditure on clothing and footwear continued to expand in 2018 although growth slowed during the first three quarters of 2019 compared with the corresponding periods a year earlier.Textile production rose in 2018 but it was down during January-October 2019 while clothing production was down in 2018 and during January-October 2019.Textile and clothing exports,meanwhile,rose in value terms in 2018 but they were down during January-October 2019.In Argentina,textile and clothing exports surged in 2018 but they fell during January-September 2019 compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.Furthermore,textile and clothing production was down in 2018,and it was down again during January-September 2019.Meanwhile,textile and clothing imports rose for the fourth consecutive year in 2018 although they fell back during January-September 2019.Textile and clothing retail sales surged in 2018 and surged again during January-August 2019-although the surges were attributable partly to substantial inflationary pressures.In Brazil,textile and clothing exports rose in 2018,and were up during January-October 2019 compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.Meanwhile,textile and clothing imports increased in 2018 but they were down during January-October 2019.However,textile and clothing production declined in 2018 and was down during January-October 2019.In Colombia,textile and clothing exports rose in 2018 but edged down during January-October 2019 compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.At the same time,textile and clothing production increased in 2018 and was also up during January-September 2018.In Mexico,textile and clothing exports rose in 2018 and were up during January-September 2019 compared with the corresponding period a year earlier.Textile and clothing imports also rose in 2018 but so did textile and clothing production.However,textile and clothingproduction was down during January-September 2019.
