The Better Cotton Initiative(BCI)has reported that the sourcing of Better Cotton increased by 45% in 2018,and the Cotton Egypt Association(CEA)has entered into a partnership with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation(UNIDO)to pilot the BCI programme in Egypt.Asos and PVH have become strategic partners of the Global Fashion Agenda,and Chanel has invested in Evolved By Nature.The Decoat consortium has been established to develop coated textiles and plastic materials which can be recycled at the ends of their useful lives,the Waste and Resources Action Programme(WRAP)has launched a grant scheme which will support projects aimed at developing infrastructure and methods for recycling plastics and textiles,and PureCycle Technologies will open a facility dedicated to recycling post-consumer polypropylene(PP)plastic.Meanwhile,the London Waste and Recycling Board(L WARB)and QSA Partners have launched a project to pilot circular economy business models,and Carpet Recycling UK(CRUK)has reported that 44% of carpet waste was diverted from landfill in the UK in 2018.Eastman Chemical Company will make its Avra filament fibres from polyester derived from post-consumer recycled materials,and Unifi has developed three new types of performance fibres and launched a new version of its Repreve polyester fibre called Repreve Our Ocean.Garmon Chemicals has developed a neutralising agent for use in denim dyeing processes,Lenzing and Solvay have developed a new performance fabric,and Argar has developed a collection of fabrics for use in the manufacture ofworkwear.Duvaltex has developed a collection of fabrics for commercial interiors which are entirely biodegradable,and Texfelt has developed two types of carpet underlay.Adidas has developed a fully recyclable running shoe,and it will increase its production of shoes incorporating fibres derived from recycled plastic waste materials.Sympatex Technologies has developed a new production process for making waterproof shoes which incorporate recycled waste materials and has developed a variety of laminates which incorporate recycled fibres,and Covestro has developed polyurethane-coated materials for footwear applications.
