HVACR sector faces strict EU carbon emissions targets

The European Commission has set out revised targets for reducing carbon emissions over the next decade that have major implications for the HVACR sector and wider global environmental aims. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in September that EU member states would be required to curb carbon emissions by 55 per cent by 2030 in order to concentrate efforts on achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. President von der Leyen said that changing existing approaches to how heating is supplied across the region is essential to meet the new targets, with buildings estimated to contribute 40 per cent of European greenhouse gas emissions.
