Study warn that energy efficiency drive risks more overheating homes

A government-led study has warned that improving energy efficiency through increased insulation has to take into account the risk of buildings overheating. Effective assessment of the risks of excessive indoor heat during summer months as a result of domestic insulation will therefore be an important consideration for the UK's climate change response. The study, a review of a decade's worth of research into the links between heat, energy efficiency, smart technology and health, was commissioned by government business department BEIS. The findings said that better understanding of the potential for overheating in UK homes in summer is needed - particularly in properties that have been made more energy-efficient through insulation and airtightness.
