BIZ: Investment TECH: Alternative Fuel: Scania starts production of gas trucks and makes Brazil centre for alternative fuels R&D

Brazil - Scania Latin America Ltda has started producing CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) trucks at its Sao Bernardo do Campo plant in ABC Paulista. Almost BRA30m (USD7m) has been invested in adapting the Sao Bernardo assembly line to produce the trucks, which will be fitted with gas engines imported from Sweden. The new models are part of a major five-year BRA2.6bn (USD600m) investment being implemented between 2016 and 2020, which includes the launch of Scania's new generation of trucks in Latin America.
