Fresh focus on maintenance for second roads period

Investment in critical structures maintenance is set to increase substantially on the strategic road network over the next five years, including activity to repair or replace decades old bridges. Highways England's second Road Investment Strategy (RIS2), which published in March, allocates ￡1.2Bn for three priority maintenance areas: structures renewal, safety barrier replacement and phasing out concrete road surfaces.
