The National Apiculture Surveillance Programme is undertaken annually by AsureQuality Limited, on behalf of the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI), to look for a number of honey bee pests and diseases not present in New Zealand. The aim of this programme is threefold:1. to provide assurances to our trading partners that we do not host certain pests or diseases in the country with declarations of 'Country Freedom'2. to increase the chances of eradication and control of any pest or disease entering the country through early detection3. and ultimately, to ensure the continued health of our nation's honey bees.
