Huntsman optimistic despite sales, earnings hits in Q3

The Woodlands, Texas - Adjusted EBITDA in Huntsman's polyurethanes division fell by 33.0% in the third quarter of 2019. Earnings were $ 146m in the 2019 period, compared with $218m in Q3 2018. Sales in the division were 2993m in the period. This compares with Si, 126m in the third quarter of 2018. Lower average MDI average selling prices in China and Europe hit both sales and earnings. Although prices were down, these were partially offset by higher MDI volumes. The company supplied these from the Chinese MDI joint venture with BASF, which started in the third quarter of 2018.
