Variation in Papillae and Mamillae in Moss Genera of Mount Abu (Rajasthan): An SEM Study

Leaf cell papillae and mammillae and peristome teeth of selected moss species of Mount Abu (Rajasthan) were examined using scanning electron microscope and results are provided. Four different types of papillae (rounded, forked, denticulate and C-shaped) and mammillae were identified in eight genera of mosses. Peristome studies include tongue-shaped, nematodontae teeth in genera like Atrichum and Pogonatum, and slender thread-like teeth in Timmiella. Vertical elements are reported in Bartramia and Plagiopus. Prominent transverse striation on exostome and thin, delicate endostome teeth are represented in Brachythecium.
