California sees salmon rebound

Southern bounty: This year's West Coast commercial salmon fishing is remarkable for its new hot spot - California, from the San Francisco Bay area south.Recent memory of California's Chinook salmon seasons is dominated by low ocean abundances, July closures, and low catches. The 2016 and 2017 seasons were declared federal fisheries disasters, with the state's ex-vessel values totaling only $5.8 million and $4.3 million respectively.But the drought that affected those seasons gave way to wet winters and the juvenile salmon that benefitted from increased stream and river flows are now adults.
